SIDS
In 1992, after an extensive review of numerous studies throughout the world, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published recommendations that healthy infants be placed to sleep on their backs. As a result, there has been a significant reduction in the number of SIDS death in the State of Indiana and throughout the US. In response to ongoing research, AAP published a revised policy statement in 2005 outlining additional factors designed to reduce the number of infant deaths due to SIDS and unsafe sleeping environments.
