WIC Now Includes Presumptive Eligibility as Proof of Income Eligibility

The Indiana WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program has announced it now includes Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility (PE) for pregnant women in its eligibility policy, allowing a pregnant woman who has been approved for PE to use her PE Determination Notice as proof of income to receive WIC services.

What is the advantage of this “adjunct eligibility” process?

  • It creates a low-barrier way for pregnant women to access critical services for which they might be eligible.
  • “One-stop shop” programs like community health centers that administer both WIC and health services can streamline their eligibility verification processes.
  • It puts Indiana’s policies in line with the many other states that use PE for WIC eligibility purposes.
