If you just had a baby, you and your next baby will be healthier if you wait at least 12 months (18 months is even better) before you get pregnant again. If you already have a health care provider, ask him or her for help choosing the right birth control for you.

Emergency contraception, also known as EC, can be used right after unprotected sex to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. If you are at least 17, you can get EC over-the-counter at the drugstore. If you are 16 and younger, you will need a prescription.
